Tournament Results for 3-7-15

Saturday March 7, 2015 two warriors Chloe Gutierrez and Cosme Vasquez competed at the 35th annual Mid Valley Karate Championship held at Weslaco East High School. The tournament was held by Shihan Raul Cantu, the tournament had around 350 competitors. This tournament is one of the biggest Martial Arts tournaments in the Rio Grande Valley.

First up to compete was Chloe Gutierrez of Honorable Warrior Martial Arts in Harlingen, she started the day off by getting 3rd  in specialty (weapons) this was only her second time competing in this division, she did great. Next up was the forms division in which Cosme Vasquez took 2nd place not bad for his first time competing as a student from Honorable Warrior Martial Arts out of about thirteen competitors; he displayed a lot of great low stances, power, and speed. Next was Chloe Gutierrez, she received 1st place in her division out of an astonishing sixteen competitors, not an easy task.

Next division was sparing which Cosme fought his way with speed and accuracy to receive 3rd place out of around eleven fighters. Next was Chloe who was undefeated at the tournament, but due to liability reasons she was not allowed to fight for the first place prize. Judges and the promoter of the tournament feared for safety due to the size difference in the six and seven year old division. Chloe fought twice and won both matches.

Overall I Sifu Oscar am very proud of the hard work these students put in at the kwoon (kung fu school). If they continue this hard work they will go far in life, not just in martial arts, but any career they choose in the future. Thank you to the parents for all their efforts of driving the students to practice and tournaments, your children are truly blessed to have such great mentors in their lives. Congratulations to everyone I am truly blessed to have such great hard working students.
